Herkimer baseball returns from their Florida spring trip
Herkimer knew their schedule in Florida would be a challenging one. Herkimer finished the southern swing at 3-7 but are encouraged by the way they competed all week. “We are a very young team trying to find our guys that will be in the lineup every day,” stated Head Coach Jason Rathbun. “I think we have some pieces figured out but we still have to improve to get where we want to be.”
Herkimer started off the trip with #6 nationally ranked Waubonsee CC. Waubonsee sent their ace Jared Liebelt, who struck out 100 hitters last season, to the mound with his 90-94 mph fastball. Herkimer scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning to take game one 2-1. Greg Musk (Schenectady, NY) started off the season, with his first of two wins on the southern trip, working 6 innings striking out 10 hitters and allowing just 1 walk.
