Lazar and Shunk Lead Herkimer Takes 3 of 4 Games Against Hudson Valley
Regional play started off with a marathon as Herkimer’s first game against Hudson Valley ran 12 innings to get the four game series started this past Sunday. Herkimer was down 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning and sent pinch hitter #22 Leon Babcock (Bloomfield, CT) to the plate with 2 outs, the sophomore left handed hitter hit a towering shot over the visitor’s bullpen to tie the game at 4. Herkimer added 4 runs in the top of the 10th but Hudson Valley responded with 4 runs to tie the game and extend game one into the 12th inning. Herkimer added another 4 runs and closed out the bottom of the 12th to win game one on the road. Freshman Bobby Lazar (Fairfield, CT) launched his first homerun of the season in the 2nd inning and added his second bomb in the 10th inning to finish the game 2-4 with 2 walks and 3 RBI’s. Herkimer got a big start out of freshman Colin Shunk (Rome, NY) as he worked a no hitter into the 6th inning in game two at Joe Bruno stadium. Shunk worked all 7 innings striking out 11 batters leading the Generals to a 3-1 victory in game two.
The Generals hosted the Vikings on Monday and took game three 11-6 to clinch the 4 game series. Herkimer took advantage of 10 walks and strong relief effort from Matt Dallas (Catskill, NY) who came in a slammed the door working 3 innings with 6 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Jake Terrill (Bayport, NY) homered for the Generals and also got a 2-4 performance from freshman Dylan Klock (St. Johnsville, NY). Herkimer dropped game four of the series 16-4.
