Generals sweep Thunderwolves to end the weekend

CHAIN OF LAKES, FL – Playing in their third doubleheader in as many days, the Herkimer Generals baseball team took care of business against Niagara County Community College Sunday (3/15), beating the Thunderwolves 7-6 and 14-0 at Chain of Lakes Park in Florida.

Helping the Generals (6-0) remain undefeated was starting pitchers Brandon Nylin (Hyde Park, NY) and Joe Nellis (Johnstown, NY). Nylin went five strong innings in game one, only allowing one run. Fatigue set in however in the sixth, needing Will Apps (Cicero, NY) to get the final out of the game, ending a five run rally by Niagara, giving Apps his second save of the season.

Nellis pitched the Generals second complete game of the season in game two, going five strong innings, only allowing four total hits after the offensive built the starter a 9-0 lead within the first two innings. It helped the freshman to his first shutout of the season.

On the offensive side, Taishi Terashima (Hiranai, Japan) collected five RBI’s between both games, going 5-for-5 at the plate with six runs scored, three walks and one triple.

After Terashima, both John Boland (Rhinebeck, NY) and Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY) had two RBI. Both players got them in game two, going 3-for-4 with one double a piece. Catcher Chris Rave (Middletown, NY) also had two RBI, going 2-for-5 in the doubleheader.

Collecting one RBI on the day for the Generals was Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY), Thomas Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY) and Christian Malave (Milford, CT).

Herkimer will play their seventh game in four days on Monday (3/16), facing Rutgers University-Camden who is 2-0 on the season. Game time between the Generals and Raptors is 2:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park
