Harrington throws perfect game in sweep of Timberwolves

QUEENSBURY, NY – Coming into his own in his last two starts - Herkimer’s Michael Harrington (Glens Falls, NY) easily had his best pitching performance of the season Thursday (4/23) - throwing a perfect game for the Generals in game one of their 16-0 and 12-1 sweep of SUNY Adirondack, helping the baseball team to 13 consecutive wins.

Harrington, one of Herkimer’s returning pitchers from last season, only needed five innings of work to accomplish perfection with the offense scoring 16 runs on 14 hits, but it didn’t faze the righty as he went through 15 straight Timberwolves batters to his fourth win of the season.

Helping the Generals score four or more runs in four innings was Matt Lichtman (Smithtown, NY), John Boland (Rhinebeck, NY) and Chris Rave (Middletown, NY). Lichtman had his best performance of the season, collecting four runs batted in on 3-for-4 at the plate. As for Boland and Rave, both catchers for the Generals had three runs batted in, helping Boland to his 18th and Rave to his 21st RBI this season.

Marcus Failing (Fort Plain, NY) followed as the starter in game two of the doubleheader for Herkimer. The freshman pitched a gem, holding a 2-0 lead into the seventh, not seeing Herkimer blow the game open until the final inning, scoring 10 runs. Failing earned his third win of the season (3-0), allowing three hits in six innings of work. He also struck out three Timberwolves.

Helping the offense tally 10 more runs in game two was Boland, Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY), Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY), Rave and Gregory Hotaling (Averill Park, NY). Boland led the team with three runs batted in while Phillips, Dorrian, Rave and Gotaling all had two RBI a piece.

Up next for the Generals is Hudson Valley Community College. Herkimer will host the Vikings in a doubleheader on Saturday (4/25). Hudson Valley is 6-1 in their last seven and currently the fourth best team in the Region III. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
