Hawks no match for Generals at home, swept 18-0 and 12-2

HERKIMER, NY – Finishing their regular season with four games against conference Mohawk Valley, the Herkimer Generals baseball team took both games hosted on Tuesday (5/5), defeating the Hawks 18-0 and 12-2.

Herkimer (37-3, 25-1) collected 10 or more hits in their ninth consecutive game, taking advantage of solid offensive performances from Chris Rave (Middletown, NY), Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY), Jake Rouse (Milford, CT) and Matt Lichtman (Smithtown, NY).

Rave and Phillips combined for eight runs batted in during game one of the doubleheader. Rave had five of those, a season-high, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Phillips had three – the fifth time he’s knocked in at least three runs in a game this season, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.

Rouse and Lichtman combined for six runs batted in during game two. Both players had three RBI a piece. Rouse got his via the home run, his fifth of the season, and Lichtman got his via the base hit, amassing 11 RBI in his last five games.

As for the pitching, Herkimer used six pitcher in the doubleheader, holding the Hawks to nine hits in 11 innings of play. The most innings pitched was two by Patrick Merryweather (Baldwinsville, NY), Michael Harrington (Glens Falls, NY), Joe Nellis (Johnstown, NY), Chad Sinko (Cohoes, NY) and Brandon Nylin (Hyde Park, NY). Merryweather and Nellis were credited with the wins, their sixth of the season.

The Generals end the regular season on the road Wednesday (5/6) at Mohawk Valley Community College. Game times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
