Generals sweep Cannoneers at home

HERKIMER, NY – Building on a 20-0 victory in their last home game, the Herkimer Generals baseball team swept Jefferson on Wednesday (4/16) at home a combined 21-to-2, defeating the Cannoneers 8-0 and 13-2.

Herkimer (13-3) got more solid pitching from Brandon Nylin (Hyde Park, NY) and Marcus Failing (Fort Plain, NY). Each collected their second win of the season, only allowing six hits in 11 innings pitched. Nylin went six innings, striking out six hitters. Failing went five innings due to a mercy rule, fanning seven batters.

Mark Giallanzo (Oneonta, NY) did come in relief of game one with the team up 8-0, not allowing a hit in one inning pitched, striking out two.

As for the offense, Herkimer got a season-high four RBI from John Boland (Rhinebeck, NY) in game one and season-high two RBI from Michael Fancher (Gloversville, NY) in game two. Both players hit a home run in their respective game. It was Boland’s first of the season and fifth as a General, while Fancher’s was his first career home run.

Thomas Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY) was another player to get multiple RBI in the doubleheader. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with 3RBI, a season-high, accumulating seven RBI in his last three games.

Up next for Herkimer is Montgomery County Community College on Friday, April 17th. The Raptors are 14-5 and winners of their last five games. Game time between these two teams is scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
