Baseball takes one game on road trip Saturday

QUEENSBURY, NY – Playing in their second consecutive doubleheader on the road this week, the Herkimer Generals split two games with SUNY Adirondack on Saturday (4/9), taking game one 7-3 but losing game two 11-3.

In game one Herkimer (6-8, 1-1) had their most home runs in a game (3) and third most hits (10). It helped the team score all the runs they needed by the third inning, using big games from Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, NY), Christian Malave (Milford, CT), Joseph Foran (Fort Ann, NY) and Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY). Kiesow led the Generals with three runs batted in, followed by Malave with two and both Foran and Dorrian with one. Malave, Foran and Dorrian all benefitted from the long ball, seeing each her tally one of their own.

With the big lead early, it allowed starter Joe DeSarro (Frankfort, NY) to settle in and earn his second win of the season. DeSarro threw six innings and allowed one earned run from five hits, striking out five Timberwolves before he was relieved by Joseph Butler (Burnt Hills, NY) in the seventh. Butler allowed three runs to score in his inning of work.

As for game two, the Generals offense was stalled by Adirondack starter Brady Sausville. Sausville threw a complete game and only allowed four hits in seven innings of work. Getting those hits for Herkimer were John Novenche (Clifton Park, NY), Kiesow, Malave and Patrick Troy (Red Hook, NY).

Getting the no decision was Salvatore Lovaglio (Dix Hills, NY) and the loss was Jon Sell (Burnt Hills, NY). Sell allowed seven runs off of 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings.
