10 in a row after sweep of Raiders on the road

JOHNSTOWN, NY – Playing in their fifth doubleheader in the span of a week, the Herkimer Generals baseball team traveled to play Fulton-Montgomery on Sunday (4/17) and defeated the Raiders 11-6 and 13-1.

Herkimer (16-8, 11-1) has gotten back on track since playing against their conference. The team lost its second conference game to SUNY Adirondack, but has since won 10 consecutive games in the matter of seven days, outscoring opponents 115-to-30.

In game one on Sunday, the team needed to score five runs in the eighth inning to win, getting Dan Nuzzi (Burnt Hills, NY) the win – his second of the season – in a relief appearance. Nuzzi was the fourth pitcher used in the game; watching Zak Shaw (Fort Hunter, NY), Jake Conroy (Kirkwood, NY) and Jack Jones (College Grove, TN) pitch before the team got the lead it needed for the win.

In game two, it was a different story, as starter Greg Musk (Rotterdam, NY) was the only pitcher needed in a 12-run victory. Musk only needed to pitch five innings for the complete game, allowing one earned run from four Raider hits. Musk struck out a season-high 11 batters.

Having good days at the plate were Gage Lanning (Central Square, NY), Petar Rumora (Palisades, NJ), John Novenche (Clifton Park, NY), Christian Malave (Milford, CT) and Mike Bastis (South Windsor, CT). In game one both Lanning and Rumora had two runs batted in each. Lanning went 2-for-3 and Rumora went 1-for-2. Same occurred for Novenche, Malave and Bastis – all had two RBI. Novenche went 1-for-3, Malave went 2-for-3 and Bastis went 2-for-3.

Herkimer’s next doubleheader is against Schenectady County. It will be their seventh consecutive doubleheader against the conference. They’ll travel to play to Royals in Schenectady, NY on Tuesday (4/19). Game times are 2 and 4 p.m.
