#10 Baseball scores 25 runs in sweep of Royals on the road

SCHENECTADY, NY – Playing in their second consecutive doubleheader on the road Tuesday (4/19), the Herkimer Generals baseball team yielded the same result, two wins over Schenectady Community College, defeating the Royals 19-5 and 6-2 for their 12th consecutive victory.

19 runs in the first game tied the Generals (18-8, 13-1) season-high for runs in a game. The team totaled 18 hits, eight of them going for extra bases. Three of those extra base hits were home runs from Christian Malave (Milford, CT) and Gage Lanning (Central Square, NY). Malave hit two, while Lanning hit one, watching both players finish the game with five runs batted in – season highs for each. Malave has now hit six home runs on the season which is the ninth highest total in the nation.

One RBI behind both Malave and Lanning was Joseph Foran (Fort Ann, NY). The infielder went 3-for-4 at the plate with a season-high four RBI. Foran has driven in nine runs in his last nine games, predominantly batting from the lead-off spot.

Benefitting from the run support in game one was starter Joe DeSarro (Frankfort, NY). The right hander allowed three earned runs in five innings of work for his fourth win of the season (4-0). He also got the complete game with it being shortened to five innings.

In game two, Herkimer scored 13 less runs, but it didn’t faze starter Salvatore Lovaglio (Dix Hills, NY) as he went five strong innings for his second win of the season (2-1). The sophomore allowed two runs from three hits before Jon Sell (Burnt Hills, NY) came in the sixth to close the game out. Sell only allowed one hit, striking out three Royals. Lovaglio struck out nine, which was a season-high.

Helping the Generals lead throughout game two offensively was John Novenche (Clifton Park, NY) and Greg Musk (Rotterdam, NY). Both players led the team with two runs batted in. Novenche went 2-for-4 and Musk went 1-for-3.

Herkimer will play Schenectady again on Thursday (4/21), this time hosting the doubleheader. Both games are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
