Late inning rally in game one sparks sweep over Hawks

UTICA, NY – Needing to score two runs in the eighth inning of game one on Saturday (4/23) to pull out the win, the #10 Herkimer Generals baseball team defeated Mohawk Valley 9-7, then cruised to their 16th straight win in game two by winning 8-1.

Herkimer (21-8, 16-1) got a fight from the four-win Hawks in game one, needing to overcome a 3-3 and 7-7 tie to get the team’s 16th conference win. Herkimer used three pitchers, ending with Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY) who recorded his first win of the season after going 1 1/3 of an inning, not allowing a run and just one hit.

Then in game two, the team used the momentum from game one to tally 11 hits, giving John Novenche (Clifton Park, NY), Dorrian and Brandon Hubbard (Potomac, MD) at team-high two runs batted in. Also joining the group with an RBI was Joseph Foran (Fort Ann, NY) and Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, NY).

The team will now host Mohawk Valley at home on Sunday (4/24) in another doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m.
