#2 Baseball puts up 11 runs on #4 Jefferson to stay alive in Final Four

(John Novenche drives in two runs in the third inning to give Herkimer a 9-0 lead over Jefferson Saturday).

LITTLE FALLS, NY – After being held to four runs through nine innings on Friday (5/20), the #2 Herkimer Generals baseball team scored 11 against #4 Jefferson Saturday (5/21) at Veterans Memorial Park to stay alive in the Region 3 Final Four, defeating the Cannoneers 11-1 in six innings.

Herkimer (33-10, 22-2) opened the game up in the second inning after they scored seven runs off of five hits, getting home runs from Brandon Hubbard (Potomac, MD) and Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, NY). Both hit two-run shots, scoring Jake Rouse (Milford, CT) and Jack Jones (College Grove, TN). Each finished the game with two runs batted in, seeing Hubbard go 1-for-3 and Kiesow go 2-for-3 at the plate.

John Novenche (Clifton Park, NY) and Patrick Dorrian (Kingtson, NY) also drove in two runs for the Generals in the game. Novenche singled with the bases loaded in the third to score Jones and Kiesow. Dorrian got his first RBI in the first on an error and second in the third when he doubled home Joseph Foran (Fort Ann, NY). Novenche finished 3-for-4 and Dorrian finished 1-for-4.  

Herkimer used three pitchers in the win. Greg Musk (Rotterdam, NY) got the start and went two innings for his seventh (7-0) win of the season. The left hander struck out three and didn’t allow a run. Coming in after Musk was Kody Shaw (Fort Hunter, NY) and Chris Henry (Yorktown Heights, NY). Shaw allowed one hit in two innings, striking out four. Henry allowed one run off of three hits.

Up next for #2 Herkimer is the loser between #1 Niagara County and #3 Onondaga. Both teams face off at Veterans Memorial Park at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday (5/21). The loser will then face Herkimer at 7 p.m. EST.
