Generals fall short against ranked opponent

HERKIMER, NY – In a game between two goliaths, the Herkimer Generals and SUNY Delhi Broncos, the higher ranked team in the NJCAA prevailed, handing Herkimer a 72-60 defeat in their varsity gym Saturday afternoon.

Herkimer 10-4 (4-1 MVC) fought hard with the Broncos through the first 15 minutes of the half, seeing five lead changes occur in that time, thanks to buckets by Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY), Julio Galay (Bronx, NY) and Wendall Williams (Syracuse, NY), however SUNY Delhi played tough on the road, leading Herkimer by seven at half (37-30).

The Broncos never relinquished that lead in the second half, only allowing Herkimer to get as close as nine points, snapping the Generals current three-game win streak and giving them their first loss in the Mountain Valley Conference.

Herkimer had two players in double figures. They were Williams and Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY). Williams finished with a team-high 24 and Feiler finished with 15. After those two, Galay finished with five, RaShawn Collins II (Harlem, NY) finished with three,Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY) finished with three, Garcia finished with six, Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY) finished with one and Peter Clark(Utica, NY) finished with one.

The team's next game is against SUNY Adirondack on Tuesday. It will be the first of two consecutive away games.
