Defensive picks up effort in second half against Twins

HERKIMER, NY – Tightening up on the defensive end, after allowing 30 points in the first half on their home floor, the Herkimer Generals Men’s Basketball team only allowed 26 points in the second half, five in the final eight minutes against Columbia-Greene Community College this afternoon, defeating the Twins 75-56.

Herkimer 20-7 (12-3) went on two separate runs in the second half. A 6-1 run to start out the first seven minutes gave the team some breathing room in the second half, but after the Twins tied it at 47, the Generals picked up their play, going on an 18-2 run to put the game at 72-53 with less than a minute left in regulation. In that span Wendall Williams (Syracuse, NY) scored three, Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY) scored eight, Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY) scored five, Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY) scored two and Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY) scored two.

Scoring the final field goal for Herkimer was Charles Reese (Hartford, CT), hitting a three-pointer with less than a minute left to give his team a 75-54 lead.

Herkimer’s next game is their final home game of the season. The Generals will host Mountain Valley Conference opponent Schenectady County Community College on Wednesday, February 19th in the varsity gym. The last time they played, Herkimer won by 16 (86-70). Tip off for this one is scheduled for 7 p.m.
