Generals’ big first half leads to 20-point victory

(Charles Reese hits one of his two three-pointers in the game on Tuesday).

(Anthony Lanieri scores on an assist in the first half from RaShawn Collins II).

(Andreas Vouliakis uses the backboard to score two of his five points against the Lions Tuesday).

HERKIMER, NY – 24 consecutive days off had the Herkimer Generals Men's Basketball team well rested Tuesday night when they hosted Christian Redemption Academy in the varsity gym. By games end, the Generals won 83-63, increasing their current win streak to two games.

Herkimer (9-3, 3-0 MVC) jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first five minutes with buckets coming from Julio Galay (Bronx, NY), Wendall Williams (Syracuse, NY), Jason Foden (Dolgeville, NY) and Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY). Then eight consecutive points by Feiler, all from mid-range or deeper, gave the Generals a 17 point lead (21-4) with 14 minutes left in the first half.

Herkimer bumped the lead to 38-9 before the Lions fought back to make it a 45-20 deficit at half. Leading the Generals with 20 points was Feiler, one of his better halves this season. Williams had nine.

Much of the same occurred in the second half, seeing Herkimer balloon the lead to 35 after Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY) hit a three-pointer with a little over 10 minutes left in regulation.

The large lead allowed Herkimer to have numerous players score in the contest, seeing 10 players rack up stats. Feiler led with 32 points, then Williams scored 17, Garcia scored eight, Galay scored six, Charles Reese (Hartford, CT) scored six, Andreas Vouliakis (Rocky Point, NY) scored five, Jerrell Hunter (Utica, NY) scored two, Foden scored two, Anthony Lanieri (Port Jefferson, NY) scored two and Mike Santillo (Mohawk, NY) scored one.

The Generals will play two more games by the end of this week. On Saturday, Herkimer will take on No. 6th ranked SUNY Delhi in their gym. Before that, Herkimer will travel to Fulton-Montgomery and take on the Raiders on Thursday (1/9). Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. At Fulton-Montgomery.
