Generals sprint past Broome 77-35

mbball 11 15 2012 allStarzHerkimer, NY – Herkimer's men overwhelmed the visitors from Broome CC on Thursday night, running to a 77-35 win. The Generals displayed a balanced and versatile attack, and a very effective defense.

The Herkimer Five had played four good games this season but then had a sub-par outing at Finger Lakes on Tuesday. When they took to the floor for the Broome game, they seemed ready to prove that their game with the Lakers had been an aberration.

The Generals were fast out of the gate. Demetrius Mitchell gave Herkimer a quick 2-0 lead. The next six minutes saw Mike Thomas, Jonathan Feiler, Jerome Floyd, and Todd Hunt putting the ball through the hoop and gaining an 18-6 lead.

The home team's lead continued to increase. Eight Generals scored in the first half, and 14 members of the Green & Gold scored before the final buzzer sounded.

Head Coach Matt Lee's team now sports a 5-1 record. They will face a stiffer test on Saturday, when the North Country Saints visit the Herkimer hilltop. The Saints are a well-disciplined group of sharpshooters. The game will be part of a women's-men's doubleheader versus North Country, with the women's game tipping off at 1:00 p.m. and the men's contest starting at 3:00.
