Barber’s 661 leads Generals to another second place finish

(Herkimer's Selena Barber bowled a conference high 661 Tuesday for the Generals).

TROY, NY – With another solid performance Tuesday (2/17) from the Herkimer Generals women’s bowling team at Hudson Valley’s hosted conference match, 2735 combined pins was good enough for second place, their third second place finish this season.

Heading the women’s effort again was Selena Barber (Mayfield, NY). The sophomore’s 613 last week at Ilion State Bowling Center was 48 pins less than her 661 on Tuesday, averaging 220 per game, also setting a season game-high 258. Her efforts as of late has vaulted Barber to second in the conference with 2870 pins in 15 games.

After Barber, Ronnie Hines (South Otselic, NY), Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY) and Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY) bowled over 500. Hines bowled her second best series in conference play, totaling 559 (212, 180, 167) with a game-high 212. Salisbury bowled her best series, a 532 which averaged to 177 per game. And Buck bowled a 523, her third five hundred series in conference play this season.

Rounding out the women’s attack was Destiny LeRoy (Sodus, NY). The sophomore bowled a 460 (186, 115, 159), averaging 153 per game.

As for the men, Trevor Marston (Georgetown, NY) joined Marshal Sterling (Mohawk, NY) and Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY) as the only men to bowl over 500. Marston’s 586 Tuesday was his fourth consecutive 500 series in conference play, averaging 195 per game which has the sophomore currently placed 11th in the Mountain Valley Conference. Sterling bowled a 557 (181, 158, 218), which was also his fourth 500 series of the season, capitalizing on a game-high 218 in game three. Cross bowled a 529 (177, 181, 171), averaging 176 per game for the Generals.

Bowling 400 series for the Generals were Ben Newman (Utica, NY), Eric Arthur (Remsen, NY), Joseph Hilts (Marcy, NY) and Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY). Newman bowled a 479 (166, 179, 134), Arthur bowled a 439 (132, 152, 155), Hilts bowled a 430 (128, 145, 157) and Tanner bowled a 412 (171, 143, 98).

The Generals next match is today Wednesday, February 18th. Schenectady County Community College will host the final conference match of the season at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady, NY. Match play is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
