BERNIER & SCOTT EARN GREEN & GOLD ATHLETES FOR NOVEMBER
November Green & Gold Athletes of the Month are awarded to freshman Cross-Country runner Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and sophomore Men’s Basketball forward #23 Tyquan Scott (Long Beach, NY).
Chyanna Bernier a Criminal Justice major from Central Valley Academy in Ilion, NY has earned Herkimer’s Green & Gold Female Athlete of November. So far this season Bernier has participated in nine races and competed against some of the top NJCAA and NCAA schools in the state. Out of her nine races Chyanna has earned eight top five finishes, four of which she finished first including the Mountain Valley Conference Championship and the Region III Championship. Bernier represented well in the National Championship race earning 2nd place overall with a time of 20:12 at a 6:30 pace. Bernier has been honored twice as Region III player of the week, and this is her second Green & Gold award this year. She has also earned a placement on the All-Region team, and All-American team. Bernier was also honored as the U.S. Track & field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Region Women’s Athlete of the Year. Head Coach Steve Sydoriw states, “As a freshman I don’t think you could ask for a better first year.”
Bernier has bravely taken on a new sport at Herkimer. She is the newest member of the Generals’ Swimming & Diving team. Swimming & Diving Head Coach Vicki Brown states, “She's extremely dedicated and has a tremendous work ethic which is evident when you watch her practice each day. Swimming is not her primary sport however, with her dedication, work ethic and commitment, there is incredible potential that I can't wait to see unfold!”
Tyquan Scott a Sports & Recreation Management major from Long Beach, NY has earned Herkimer’s Green & Gold Athlete of November. So far this season Tyquan has played in 10 games, earned 205 points, fifth in the nation averaging at 20.5 points per game, 14 assists and 58 rebounds. Scott has become a valuable presence for the team both on and off the court. His work ethic and leadership are critical to this team’s excellence. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Matt Lee states, “Tyquan has made it a habit of working hard. This will lead him and the team to a successful season.”
