Men’s Lacrosse drops second straight over the weekend

WATERTOWN, NY – Netting less than 10 goals for the second straight game, this time on the road Saturday (4/2), the Herkimer Generals men’s lacrosse team lost to Jefferson in regulation 8-7.

Herkimer (3-4, 1-0) relinquished a 2-1 first quarter lead and trailed for 26 minutes until a Cavanagh Rigby (Bexley, OH) netted his 11th goal of the season on Ryan Fischer’s (Monroe, NY) third assist of the game with 3:59 left in the third. It was Rigby’s only goal of the game, while Fischer complied his third hat trick and second highest point total of the season (6) with his added three assists.

However, four straight Cannoneer goals in the span of 12 minutes quickly erased the General lead, making it 8-5 with three minutes in regulation. Fischer made it a one goal deficit (8-7) with an unassisted goal and assisted goal from Jon Wilkins (Norwalk, CT), but it wasn’t enough as the team lost their second game of the season by one goal.

In net for the Generals was Charles Rosaschi (Highland Mills, NY). In his seventh start of the season, the freshman saved 12 shots.

Up next for Herkimer Hudson Valley. It will be the team’s second conference game of the season, already 1-0 with a home win over Mohawk Valley (22-3). The Vikings are 0-4 on the season with losses to Jefferson, Finger Lakes, Genesee and Tompkins Cortland. They’ve netted 17 goals in four games which averages to just over four a game. The Generals will host the Vikings at Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday (4/6). Game time is 4 p.m.
