Last Saturday afternoon the #3 Herkimer Men’s Soccer team faced the Northern Virginia Nighthawks at Wehrum Stadium. The Generals had the entire package that afternoon as the offense was productive and the defense was impenetrable. Herkimer kept the Nighthawks offense at bay holding them at just five shots, only two of which were on goal. Our Generals’ offense kept control of momentum throughout the game. The first two Herkimer goals came from freshman midfielder #32 Issak Somow (Utica, NY). In his first goal Somow finished it from a feed from fellow freshman #23 Gianni Cognata (Cape Coral, FL). Somow’s second goal was assisted by #13 Camilo Avendano (Cape Coral, FL) netted just a short two minutes later. With ten minutes left in the first half the third Generals goal came from sophomore pair #10 Dajhal Kelly (Saint Kitts, Caribbean Sea), assisted by #8 Jordan Saling (Haledon, NJ). Somow aided in Herkimer’s final goal of the game at the 72 minute mark finished by #3 Chris Cornwill (Sunshine Coast, Queensland) which left the final score 4-0. Herkimer now turns their sights to their Region III rival Mohawk Valley Hawks as they travel there on Wednesday (10/5) at 2 p.m.
