Generals’ shutout Broome en route to 7-0 victory

BINGHAMTON, NY – Getting contributions from their top three scorers on Saturday (10/4), the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team cruised to a 7-0 win over Broome Community College on the road.

Herkimer (10-0-1, 5-0) saw Ben Polk (Banbury, UK), Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) and MacIntry Felton (Vestal, NY) all net two goals each against the Hornets. All three have combined for 39 of Herkimer’s 66 goals this season, roughly 60 percent of the team’s offense through 11 games.

Freshman Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) was the other General to net a goal, the first of the game and second of the season for the midfielder. Another freshman Rodrigo Guerra (Newburgh, NY) found Somow in the 11th minute to make it 1-0. Guerra got his second assist of the game in the 34th to Felton. It gave Herkimer a 4-0 lead into halftime and Guerra his eighth assist on the season, which is eighth best in the nation and second best in the region.

Other individuals to assist on goals were Simon Hernandez (Carcas, Venezuela), Connor Shearer (Oneonta, NY), Shane Jenkinson (Dublin, Irleand) and Jeff Castaneda (Frnaklin Square, NY). It was Hernandez’s first assist, Shearer’s fourth, Jenkinson’s sixth and Castaneda’s second assist of the season. Of the four, Jenkinson is the only one ranked in the Top 20 in assists in the nation and Top 10 in the region.

Herkimer will look to shutout their fifth consecutive opponent this coming Wednesday (10/8) when they travel to Utica, NY to face Mountain Valley Conference rival Mohawk Valley Community College. The Hawks are the second best team in the region behind Herkimer, winning their last 11 straight games.
