Eight goals are enough to move to Region III Championship

(James Wilson scored the second goal of the game in the 31st minute).

(Peter McAvoy scored the third goal of the game in the 42nd minute).

HERKIMER, NY – Having seven different players find the net against Broome Community College in the Region III Semifinals, the Herkimer Men's Soccer team advances to the Region III Championship, beating the Hornets 8-0 Tuesday evening at Wehrum Stadium.

The Generals (13-1, 4-0 MVC) have been unstoppable as of late, ripping off seven consecutive wins, all of which were shutouts. Both the offense and defense have been solid, helping Herkimer outscore their opponents 28-0.

Starting off the Generals attack against the Hornets was sophomore midfielder Brian Coyt (Port Chester, NY). Coyt placed a header (1-0) past Broome goalie Alex Abres (Endicott, NY) after freshman forward MacIntyre Felton (Vestal, NY) headed to him on a kick from Ailton DoRosario (Ansonia, CT). The goal came in at the 10th minute.

It took almost 20 minutes of play before the Generals found the net again, when James Wilson knocked in his six goal of the season, from freshman forward Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland), giving Herkimer the 2-0 lead.

Wilson's solid play continued into the 42nd minute, helping his team increase the lead to 3-0 before half on a corner kick to Captain Peter McAvoy (Dundee, Scotland). McAvoy received the ball just outside of the 18, putting it away to the left of the net for his 11 goal this season.

Despite the cold weather, which dipped to 33 degrees, the Generals remained hot in the second half, tallying five goals. The first came from Windster in the 62nd when he blasted it through the hands of Broome goalie Arbes, increasing the lead to four (4-0). Assisting on the play was sophomore defender Matthew Clinton (Manchester, England).

Adam Kozecke (Endwell, NY) scored two goals and had one assist in the final 20 minutes of regulation to increase the Herkimer lead to 7-0. Both his goals, which came in the 66th and 81st, were separated by Isaiah Kossinne's (London, England) goal in the 66th. It was Kozecke's fourth goal and second assist of the season. As for Kossinne, it was his second goal of the season.

Rounding out the scoring was freshman midfielder Ryan Moon (Crickhowell, Powys, Wales). Moon had the only unassisted goal of the game in the 83rd minute. He kicked the ball through a collection of offensive and defensive players, not touching a single one, on its way to the left side of the net for the 8-0 lead.

Starting at goalie for Herkimer was sophomore Triston Henry (Scarborough, Ont.). Henry, who now has 11 shutouts this season, saved six shots in the game, all of which could've made the game a lot closer than it turned out. His counterpart was freshman Austin Santor (Chazy, NY). Santor managed to save three shots.

The Generals next game is this Saturday, November 2nd. They will host Genesee Community College at 12 p.m. in the Region III Championship. The Cougars beat Cayuga Community College in overtime 3-2 tonight. The last time these two teams met, Herkimer won 4-0 at Wehrum Stadium.
