Track & Field places well at Naz/Roc City Classic Monday

(Lindsey Therrien finished in 24th place overall on Monday in 100-meter hurdles, posting a 18.25).

(Christopher Simmons placed second in the long jump on Monday, leaping 6.52 meter at Nazareth College).

ROCHESTER, NY – Competing in 17 total events between the men and women on Monday (4/11) at Golden Flyer Stadium in Rochester, NY – the Herkimer Generals track & field program combined for seven top 10 finishes.

Leading the way with three individually was Christopher Simmons (Utica, NY). Simmons placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.27) and second in both the long jump (6.52m) and triple jump (12.98m). His fourth top 10 finish came in the 4x100-meter dash with Jhamel Cohen (Brooklyn, NY), Tyrique Rideau (Westchester, NY) and Adrian Young (Newburgh, NY). The group placed sixth in the event, posting a 44.46 which is the ninth fastest time in the nation currently.

For the men, the other two top 10 finishes came in the 3000-meter steeplechase and 400-meter hurdles. Norman Clayton (Bronx, NY) ran the 3000, giving his best effort thus far in the season. His 11:13.60 is currently the second fastest time in the nation, second to Mohawk Valley’s Bryan VanHall (11:03.90). As for the 400-meter, Kenwyn Gibbs Jr. (Brooklyn, NY) ran for 10th overall, posting a 1:12.35.

The last top 10 finish came in the 4x100-meter relay for the women. Running the four legs was Gabrielle Bridgewater (Fort Plain, NY), Shannon Shirley (Bronx, NY), LuAisha Charles (Middletown, NY) and Katrina Murray (Rochester, NY). The group posted a 56.19 which gave them fifth place overall. That time is currently the 10th fastest time in the nation.
