Herkimer Baseball Sweeps Hudson Valley; Wins Mountain Valley Conference Championship

Herkimer won the Mountain Valley Conference with a sweep of Hudson Valley CC today.  Herkimer had a five run 7th inning after entering the bottom of the seventh down 4 runs.  George Hajjar ripped a ball down the left field line with 2 outs and the score tied at 7 to score Nick Bloom for the winning run. Herkimer got RBI singles from Amar Lewis and Al Ferenti and a 2 RBI single from Ron Patterson before the Hajjar hit.  Herkimer then jumped on Hudson Valley with a 4 run first inning keyed by a AL Ferenti 3 run homerun to start game two.  Herkimer added a run in the second and held off HVCC with runners on base in the 7th as Brett Hauber would shut the door to preserve the victory.  Matt Gonyea threw a 5 inning gem in game two allowing only 4 hits, 1 earned run, with no walks, and 3 k's.  Herkimer will host a sub-regional game on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with the seeding to be done on Sunday night to determine an opponent.  Herkimer moved to a 30-8 record and finished the regular season 4th in the country.
