Generals Wins Season Opener 22-0
The bell rang for the Generals to begin their 2009 season and
they came out fast and furious beatong Rockville 22-0. They swung
early and they swung often, putting up 22 runs, backed by 15 hits,
on the home team Knights. The fury was led by a host of Generals,
including freshmen George Hajjar (2-4,2runs,1rbi), Kris Barone
(1-2,1run,3rbi's) and Ryan Davidson (3-4,1run,2rbi's). The big
blows came off the bats of two sophomores. Chris Massar
(1-2,4runs,4rbi's) hit a monstrous 3-run home run in the second
inning of the Generals 9-run outburst. During the Generals 6-run
4th, Nate Sanzo (4-4,4runs,3rbi's) smoked a triple to the right
center gap plating three more Generals, completely demoralizing the
home team.
The offensive outburst overshadowed a much anticipated debut on the
mound by freshman Andy Eggleston. Eggleston certainly didn't
disappoint as he threw a complete game, striking out seven while
allowing just one hit and one walk in five dominant innings.
Ron Patterson got the party started by crushing a deep triple to
the gap and the hitting became contagious from there. Brandon Jones
and Jeff Sergott contributed singles to the attack while Amar Lewis
added one hit and one rbi and Al Ferenti one rbi respectively.
The Generals (1-0) will take on Northern Essex Community College
(Massachusettes) in a double-header scheduled for 12pm today.
