Generals Take Two From Northern Essex

Northern Essex capitalized on three errors early to take a 5-0 lead after two innings in game one. Herkimer responded to score 7 runs over the final 5 innings to win game one 7-5. Freshman Al Ferenti earned the win in relief of starter Corey Stapleton and Tom Wiacek recorded his first save of the season.

Herkimer's bat stayed hot in game two scoring 14 runs in 5 innings to mercy rule Northern Essex 14-1. Herkimer recorded 7 doubles and a homerun by Ron Patterson during the 14 hit team performance. Starter Matt Gonyea earned his first victory of the season by pitching a complete game striking out 7 with 3 hits, no walks, and one earned run. Nate Sanzo was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and Al Ferenti was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles in game two. Herkimer runs their record to 3-0 on their southern trip with a 9 inning game against DII power Allegany CC on Tuesday.
