Herkimer Goes 3-1 on Weekend; Masser and Lewis Go Yard

Herkimer dropped game 1 of a double header against Tompkins Caortland CC on Saturday 9-8.  TC3 jumped on starter Andy Eggleston in the first inning scratching 3 unearned runs.  Siracusa hit a base clearing triple with two outs in the first.  TC3 would add 3 runs in the 3rd and stretch the lead to 6-0.  Herkimer got the bats going in the 4th innings when Al Ferenti started off the inning with a double and Kris Barone followed with a double of his own and George Hajjar would add a 2 rbi double later in the inning as Herkimer closed the game to 6-5.  TC3 answered back quickly with a 3 run 4th inning that started with a leadoff triple by Nick that would chase started Andy Eggleston from the game.  Herkimer answered back to a 9-5 deficit by scoring 3 runs in the 6th when Amar Lewis would hit a two run homer and followed by Chris Massar's fourth homerun on the season to close it to 9-8. Herkimer had runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs but TC3 pitcher Mabry would record the final out on a NIck Bloom groundout.  Herkimer kept the bats hot in game 2 when they recorded 23 hits and scored 20 runs in response of the first game loss. Herkimer scored 6 runs in the first inning on multiple rbi singles.  Herkimer would continue to score every inning after that but unable to put a scrappy TC3 away for good as they would score 8 runs of their own. Jeff Sergott was 5-5, Al Ferenti was 4-5, Brandon Jones 3-4, and Amar Lewis went 2-4 all in game 2.  Keagan Smith earned the victory in game two allowing 1 earned run in 4 1/3 innings allowing no walks, three hits, and struck out 2.

 

Herkimer turned to their pitching staff on Sunday sweeping a double header from Jefferson CC 4-0 and 8-0 at Watertown Fairgrounds.  TJ Abounader earned the victory in game 1 pitching 6 innings with 5 k's, walks, and hits.  Kris Barone was 5-5 with a key rbi hit in a three run fifth inning.  Parker Umbra was 2-2 with a triple in game one as well.  Herkimer turned to their closer in Tom Wiacek to start game 2.  Wiacek would work 6 innings and allowing only 1 hit while walking 3 batters.  Herkimer would get the scoring started in the first with a Amar Lewis RBI double and when he later scored on a Kris Barone double.  Barone was 3-4 with 2 doubles in game 2 making it 8 for 9 on the day. Lee Foxton also had a big game in the second day going 4-4 with a double as well.  Herkimer moved to 25-7 on the season.
