Herkimer Baseball Splits With Vikings On The Road; Hajjar Leads With Six Hits On The Day

Herkimer got a strong start from Andy Eggleston in game one as he left the game in the seventh with a 9-1 lead.  He went 6 and 2/3 with 7 strikeouts with allowing 7 hits and 3 walks.  Herkimer scored 7 of their 9 runs in the 4th innings keyed by an Amar Lewis homerun and a Luke Branch bases loaded double. Lewis finished 3-5 and George Hajjar went 3-5 with a triple in game one.

Game two was a battle every inning and Herkimer would come up short in a 7-6 loss.  Down two runs in the top of the seventh Lee Foxton hit a two run homerun to rightfield at Joe Bruno stadium to tie the game with two outs.  Hudson Valley then answered in the bottom of the 7th with a leadoff double by Luke Burns.  Burns would advance on two wild pitches and score the winning run to take the split in the first two games of the four game series.  "It is an unfortunate way to come up short in such a well played game," stated Coach Rathbun.  Hajjar again had another big game going 3-4 at the plate in game two and high school teammate Al Ferenti added a 2-4 game.
