Strong Finish Propels Generals to Victory
The HCCC men's basketball team finished strong to get the win last evening against Columbia-Greene Community College, 77-67 in Herkimer. The Generals trailed 62-60 with 3:49 left in the game but closed strong to get the victory. Akeem Ellis was again dominant on the backboards with a career high 20 rebounds. He also chipped in with 21 points. Cliff Brown added 18 points and four steals, Reggie German had a career high 14 points including four three pointers, and Kevin Kucel survived a cold start by adding 12 points and 11 assists including a key three pointer down the stretch that put the Generals up for good. Steve Campbell, starting for the injured Rhamel Williams, contributed with nine points and eight rebounds. Williams is expected to play Wednesday evening when the Generals return to the court against Mountain Valley Conference foe Adirondack Community College at 7:00 in Herkimer. Eli Tillerson scored 37 for the Twins including a 30 point explosion in the first half.
The victory improved HCCC's overall record to 21-5 with four regular season games remaining. They are currently ranked 8th in the nation pending Tuesday's poll. They have won their last five contests and 13 of their last 14.
