Herkimer Men's Basketball Scores A Knockout In First Meeting With Mohawk Valley CC
Herkimer men's basketball defeated rival Mohawk Valley Community
College Wednesday evening 69-60 before a packed house in Herkimer.
Freshman Jerome Floyd had his best game as a General with 13 points
on four of four shooting from the field and three of three shooting
from the free throw line. Akeem Ellis and Rhamel Williams
both had 12 points and 10 rebounds for HCCC and Stevie Thompson
chipped in with 10 points, Ian Austin-Michaud, playing with a
severely sprained foot, lead the Generals defensively holding
MVCC's best player, Deandre Preaster, to five points. Darien
Thomas had nine rebounds, including four in a row down the
stretch. Guards Cliff Brown and Matt Baldwin had key baskets
to open the second half to allow Herkimer to build a comfortable 15
point lead before cruising down the stretch to seal the
victory.
HCCC continues to be ranked #1 in Region III and #3 in the country
as they improved their record to 17-2 and extended their win streak
to 17 games. Herkimer takes on conference rival SUNY Delhi
Friday evening in Herkimer. Game time is 7:00 p.m
