Too Many Turnovers Cost Men's Basketball In National Championship Bid; Ellis Drops 33 points
The forth game of the NJCAA Men's Division III Championship Tournament featured Joliet Junior College Wolves and the Herkimer County Community College Generals, both familiar to the tournament. Joliet opened up an early 10-point lead. Joliet continued to lead by shooting three-point goals and achieving rebounds. Joliet finished off the half with a 40 to 24 lead over Herkimer.
The two teams traded baskets for the first ten minutes. Brian Bradley of the Wolves and the Generals' Akeem Ellis contributed points for their teams. With six minutes left, Joliet's lead was cut to five by the Wolves. With two minutes left in the half, Joliet extended its lead to 12 points due to a couple of crucial free throws. The score ended 87-71 in favor of Joliet.
Herkimer's bid to win the national championship is over, but will play two reamining games in the tournament. The Generals will face Davidson County CC out of North Carolina Friday beginning at 3:00 pm. The loss places the Generals at 31-3 on the season.
