Herkimer Men's Soccer Championship Run Ends Against Richland
The #2 seed Herkimer men's soccer team run for a back to back national championship ended with a 2-0 loss to #3 seed Richland College (Texas) in the NJCAA National Final Four Semi-final game. Richland scored in the 13th minute on Victor Almendariz shot from 22 yards out. The Generals had several opportunities to tie the game missing two open goals and two breakaway saves. Herkimer outshot the Thunder ducks 10 to 5 and had nine corner kicks to Richland’s four. Richland’s Brett Garrett scored the insurance goal in the 71st minute to seal the win. General’s senior goalkeeper James Taber had two saves on the night. “We had our chances and couldn’t finish tonight.” Said Generals coach Pepe Aragon. “We dominated play but could not find the net.” Herkimer will face #1 seed Nassau CC tomorrow at 11:15 am in the consolation game. Nassau lost to #4 seed Union CC 2-1 in OT.
