Herkimer Soccer Alumni Sam Kennedy To Play For NCAA Division II National Championship On Saturday
Former Herkimer CCC soccer star Sam Kennedy helped lead Lees-McRae College (NC) to a 19-2-1 record and the school's first ever NCAA Division II National Championship appearance. The Bobcats overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring two goals in the last nine minutes to send the game into overtime and penalty kicks. Lees McRae won 5-2 in the shutout. Kennedy played in the NJCAA National Final Four in 2007 as a player and was a student assistant for last year's 2008 National Championship team before transferring to Lees-McRae. "Sam has been blessed to be part of three National Final Four teams. Said Coach Pepe Aragon. "Our Herkimer soccer family will be watching proudly." The Bobcats will play Fort Lewis College (CO) for the National Championship on Saturday at 3:30pm on CBS College Sports.
