Donations for Sandy victims accepted at soccer nationals
Herkimer, NY— Herkimer County Community College is partnering with the American Red Cross to collect monetary donations to aid Hurricane Sandy victims.
Red Cross volunteers will be available to accept donations during the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Men's Soccer Tournament November 8-11 at HCCC's Wehrum Stadium.
"Three of the teams competing in the tournament this weekend have been directly affected by Hurricane Sandy, as well as many of our own students and their families, so we wanted to do something to help all those in need," said Donald Dutcher, Director of Athletics. The teams participating in the tournament directly affected by Hurricane Sandy are Ocean County College (Toms River, NJ), Brookdale Community College (Lincroft, NJ) and Suffolk County Community College (Selden, NY).
The Herkimer Generals will face Brookdale Community College in the quarterfinals on Thursday, November 8 at 11 a.m. at Wehrum Stadium. If Herkimer wins, they will advance to the national semifinals on Friday, November 9 at 4 p.m. at Wehrum Stadium. If they lose in the quarterfinals, Herkimer will play Friday at 11 a.m. The championship game will be held at HCCC's Wehrum Stadium on Sunday, November 11 at noon.
Going into the Nationals, the Generals' overall record is 17-2 with an 8-0 record in the Mountain Valley Conference.
