Herkimer Softball Cruises To Sweep Of Doubleheader

The Herkimer Generals Softball team scored early and scored often as they put up a total of 24 runs in two victories over Alfred St. on Sunday afternoon.

In the first game, which ended in Herkimer winning 13-1, the Generals sent 13 batters to the plate scoring 9 runs on 9 hits in the first inning alone.  Herkimer got a stellar pitching performance out of Freshman Courtney Hibbard as she pitched a complete game surrendering one run on one hit.  Leading the attack for the Generals was Amber Swanston who was 2-2 with two doubles and Kayla Ladd 2-3, 1 2b, and 2 rbi’s.  Misty Mathis also added an extra base hit with a couple of rbi’s.

Game two was more of the same from the Generals as they beat Alfred St. 11-1.  After Alfred St. jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after one, the bats once again came alive in the second as Herkimer sent 11 batter to the plate and put up 7 runs. The offense pounded out 11 more runs on 14 hits with Kayla Ladd leading the way going 3-3 with a couple of rbi’s.  Amber Swanston, Nicole Hinman, Katie Monahan, and Chelsey Muscatello all recorded multi-hit games for the Generals.  Once again, Herkimer got another great performance out of Courtney Hibbard on the mound as she threw her fifth consecutive complete game enroute to her fourth victory of the year.  She once again surrendered one run on 4 hits while striking out seven.
