Herkimer Softball Drops Doubleheader
The Herkimer Generals softball team dropped a pair of Region III
games today to Broome CC by the scores of 9-0 and 6-4. The first
game, the Generals were doomed by their defense which committed 5
errors behind starting pitcher Courtney Hibbard who threw her 7th
complete game in four days. Broome CC also received a dominating
performance from starting pitcher Julia Edwards who yielded just
one hit.
The Generals seemed to cleanup their defensive miscues a bit but
still couldn't break through on the stingy Broome pitching and
defense. Broome tacked on 4 early runs while pitcher Millie
Grodbout continued to shut down the Herkimer offense through 6
innings, surrendering only a towering solo homerun by Emily
Woudenberg. After Broome scratched 1 run across in both the 5th and
6th, the Herkimer offense finally came alive. After getting the
first two hitters on base with consecutive singles, Kayla Ladd
stepped up and hit a 3-run bomb to push the score to 6-4 in favor
of the Hornets. Misty Mathis then stepped up and hit a double
to bring the tying run to the plate. Emily Woudenberg then stepped
up and smacked a screaming single to right field but was thrown out
at first by the right fielder to end the game.
The Generals will be back in action this Thursday afternoon vs
Fulton Montgomery at home. First pitch is slated for 3pm
