Swanston Drops Two Moon Shots As Herkimer Softball Goes On To Sweep Visiting Broncos

The Herkimer CCC Generals Softball team got off to a quick start and never looked back as they beat up on the visiting Suny Delhi Broncos in a Region III doubleheader by the scores of 27-1 and 11-3, mercy ruling the visitors in both games.

The first game saw the Generals send 10 batters to the plate in the first inning as they put up a 5 spot on the Broncos.    After scoring 3 more in the 2^nd, the offense exploded in the 3^rdas they  sent 22 batters to the plate scoring 19 runs on 12 hits in the inning.  The offense was led by Amber Swanston as she went 3-4 with 2 long homeruns and 7 rbi’s while scoring 5 runs.  Also having big days at the plate for Herkimer was Kayla Wallenhorst (2-3, 2b,5rbi’s), Sam Signor (3-4, 2b, 4runs, rbi), Kayla Ladd(2-5, 2 2b, 2 rbi’s), Emily Woudenberg (2-3,4 runs, rbi) Dinah Vaveao(3-4, 2b, 4rbi’s) Chelsey Fancett(3-5,2b,4rbi’s) and Krista Stubba(2-3, 3b, and 3rbi’s).  Courtney Hibbard picked up the victory on the mound running her record to 9-6 on the year.

In the second game, Suny Delhi jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after one , but Herkimer struck for two runs in the the second to knot the score.  The score would push to 3-3 after 4 innings of play until Herkimer got hot in the 5^th.  The Generals would send 12 batters to the plate scoring 8 runs to end the game in the 5^thevoking the mercy rule.  Herkimer’s offense was led by Kayla Ladd who went 2-2 with 3rbi’s and Chelsey Muscatello who added a bases clearing triple, finishing the day 1-3 and 3rbi’s.  Also recording multi-hit games for Herkimer was Emily Woudenberg (2-3) and Misty Mathis (2-4, 2b, 2runs). Once again, Courtney Hibbard picked up the win on the mound improving her record to 10-6. 

Herkimer will travel to play Jefferson CC tomorrow at 3pm before returning home to play Columbia Greene Thursday @ 3pm.
