Herkimer softball players earn post-season honors
Herkimer, NY—The Herkimer County Community College softball team placed five women on the 1st Team All-Region and seven women on the 1st Team All-Conference; Coach PJ Anadio was voted Conference and Region III Coach of the Year.
Receiving 1st Team All-Region Honors were catcher Maggie Mulligan, (Amsterdam, NY); pitcher Krista Oakes, (Akwesasne Reservation); first baseman Britt Thivierge, (Schuylerville, NY); repeat selection utility/designated player Kayla Ladd, (Fonda, NY); and outfielder Emily Woudenberg, (Ilion, NY). Little Falls native Olivia Tooley was selected as the 2nd Team All-Region shortstop.
Head Coach PJ Anadio, (Gloversville, NY) was named Region III Coach of the Year. “This season was such a huge success on so many different levels for the softball program. The team worked so hard all year long and deserve everything accolade they have coming to them,” Anadio said.
Maggie Mulligan was “by far the best catcher
in the region, if not the entire country this year,” Anadio
said. “We are fortunate to have her back next
year.” Mulligan also had a big year at the plate as she hit
.471 with 16 doubles and 43 RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Krista Oakes was equally impressive for the Generals as she posted a 12-2 record prior to the regional tournament with a 1.42 ERA. “We are expecting big things from Krista next season,” said Anadio. Oakes was also named the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference Player of the Year.
Britt Thivierge, had a huge year for the Generals while playing a new position, first base. “Britt was a true team player and captain for us,” Anadio said. Thivierge ended up hitting .451 with 36 RBIs.
Emily Woudenberg, who was selected as an outfielder, was equally important to this year’s team not only as a player but as a leader. “This is a woman who has poured everything she has into this program and her teammates for two years. Her leadership skills were vital to this program,” Anadio said. Woudenberg led the Generals offensively this year with a .476 BA to go along with 44 RBIs.
Returning All-American Kayla Ladd was chosen a second time around as a 1st Team All-Region performer as the Utility/DP. “She hit .462 with eight home runs and 49 RBIs, putting her well over the 100 RBI mark in two stellar seasons at Herkimer,” Anadio said.
Shortstop Olivia Tooley was named to the 2nd Team All-Region after hitting .407 with four home runs and 32 RBIs.
In his second season at the helm of Herkimer’s softball program, Head Coach PJ Anadio was selected as the Region III Coach of the Year. Anadio was also recognized as Conference Coach of the Year.
In addition to the five players selected as 1st Team All-Region, freshman Andrea Rogers (Munnsville, NY) and sophomore Kayla Delles (Waterville, NY) joined them on the 1st Team All-Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference team. Rogers, who played second base for Herkimer, hit .404 with 24 RBIs while flashing some impressive leather all year for the Generals.
Delles was selected as an outfielder as she locked down center field for the Generals. Delles posted a .413 batting average to go along with two home runs and 22 RBIs. She was also a perfect 28-28 on stolen bases this year.
