Mohawk Valley women beat Herkimer 77-50
Herkimer, NY - Mohawk Valley Community College broke open a close game by hitting 9 of their 12 3-point shots in the second half and pulled away from the Herkimer Generals by a score of 77-50 on Tuesday night in Herkimer, NY. It was "Fuel to Play" night at the gym as the Generals partnered with the Herkimer County Dairy Association to promote the use of milk as a part of a healthy diet. There were giveaways, halftime contests, and appearances from Herkimer County Dairy Representatives, farmers and other personnel, in conjunction with HCCC Athletics, to promote this important message.
The Hawks broke out to a 30-20 halftime lead behind Shaniece Brown, who led all scorers with 18 points on the evening, and Barrie Brooks, who added 11. The Hawks then broke open the game in the second half with their point barrage. Freshman Hayley Awerdick (Ossining, NY) once again led Herkimer in scoring with 14 points, which included 2 3-point field goals. Sally Jo Frakes (Cambridge, NY) pitched in with 8 points on the night.
With the loss, the Generals fall to 7-11 on the year. The schedule doesnt get easier for Herkimer as their next game takes them to Syracuse, NY on Thursday night to take on nationally ranked Onondaga Community College. Tip time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
