Herkimer Women's Soccer Downs Alfred State; Wears Pink To Promote Awareness

The Herkimer women's soccer team hosted a tough Region III competitor in Alfred State and came out with a 2-1 victory.  Dressed in pink jerseys and socks in support of breast cancer awareness month, the Herkimer Generals opened the scoring 27 minutes into the first half.  Ashleigh Tracy took control of the ball and sent it over the defenders for Samantha Signor to gain control and beat the keeper.  The 1-0 halftime lead was evened up as Alfed State was awarded a penalty kick from a hand ball in the box.  With 6 minutes remaining in the game, Sam Signor again found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Maria Scerra.  The goal proved to be the game winner for Herkimer who now improves to 13-2 overall and will face #1 ranked Montgomery -Rockville tomorrow at 11:30 am. Amber Swanston was excellent in goal for Herkimer with 8 saves and 1 goal against on a penalty shot.
