Herkimer Women's Soccer Comes Back Late in Game to Win; Remains Undefeated

The Herkimer women's soccer team continued their winning ways as they upended 2008 Region III B champs, Jefferson Community College in dramatic fashion.  At the end of a hard fought match, the Generals came out victorious 2 -1.

The first half was full of back and forth, hard fought action in the middle of the field, while a defensive battle kept it scoreless.  The back half for Herkimer in the first 45 minutes was anchored by a diving save from sophomore goal keeper Amber Swanston, while the physical play of Daci Walker and hustle of fellow defensemen kept it an intense match up.

In the 58th minute of play Jefferson CC opened up the scoring on a broken play to take the momentum and the lead.  At the 80th minute mark, Herkimer answered back with a huge goal.  Sam Signor split the defense for a great through pass to send Maria Scerra on a run to finish her shot to tie it at one.

After a long scoring drought, intense play and plenty of opportunities both ways, Herkimer emerged victorious.  The play was set up all the way in the back by defensemen Daci Walker stealing the ball from her mark and moved it up the field to Freshman Ashleigh Tracey.  Tracey then beat her defender and set up Krista Stubba by chipping the ball over the defensive line and Stubba's patience and ball control forced the goalie to commit to her and go one on one and Stubba buried the game winner.

With this win, Herkimer remains undefeated at 5 -0.  The lady Generals play next at home on Thursday September 10th at 6pm against Fulton Montgomery C.C. in Wehrum stadium.
