Herkimer Women's Soccer Tames Broncos; Still Undefeated And Ranked Second In The Nation

The Herkimer women's soccer team, who is ranked #2 in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll, defeated the SUNY Delhi Broncos 3-1.  Maria Scerra scored twice and Krista Stubba scored once to lead the Generals.

Herkimer faced Region III rival, SUNY Delhi and finished the evening with a 3 - 1 victory.  Herkimer struck first and fast, scoring their first goal 3 minutes in to the game on a scrappy goal from Poland native Krista Stubba.  Stuuba followed up a shot from Maria Scerra that was stopped and buried it past Delhi keeper Lysandra Tetrealt for a 1 - 0 start.

The lady's kept the pressure on as they scored 4 minutes after the first goal to make it 2 - 0.  Their second goal of the night came from sophomore captain Maria Scerra (which proved to be the game winner) from a great touch pass from freshman midfielder Ashleigh Tracy.

SUNY Delhi then scored their only goal of the match nine minutes in to the second half on a defensive miscue to make the score 2 - 1.

Freshman, Amanda Peek set up a great play and got the assist on Herkimers third and final goal of the evening.  Peek passed the perfect through ball to the middle to find Maria Scerra all alone for a one on one with Delhi's keeper and Scerra placed the ball perfectly into the net to make the final 3 - 1 in favor of the undefeated lady Generals.

Herkimer sophomore goalkeeper Amber Swanston had another great night in net as she led the Generals to another victory finishing the night with 5 saves.

Herkimer plays again Friday September 25th at 6pm on the road at Onondaga C.C.
