Herkimer Women's Soccer Advances to Region III A Championships This Weekend at Tompkins Cortland CC; Will Face Genesee CC
The Herkimer women's soccer team defeated Jamestown CC in the Region III A semi final at Wehrum stadium by a score of 2-0. The Generals were quick to show they wanted the game as Samantha Signor collected a pass from Krista Stubba and shot it over the keepers hands just 3 minutes into the game. The game remained at 1-0 through the first half, but Herkimer controlled much of the game possession. Just ten minutes into the second half, Signor again found the back of the net as she headed the ball from an Ashleigh Tracy corner kick. The Generals outshot their opponent 26-7 in a great game to advance to the Region IIIA Finals this Saturday at Tompkins Cortland CC at 12 pm. Herkimer's Amber Swanston had five saves in goal and great defensive play by Justine Ward, Melissa McGough, Daci Walker and Chelsey Fancett was one of the keys to Herkimer's success tonight.
Herkimer will travel this weekend to Tompkins Cortland CC to face Genesee CC in the Region III A Championship game beginning at noon.
