Women’s Soccer Season Preview

The 2010 Lady Generals will have a big test ahead of them this fall. With only six players from the very talented 2009 squad returning, the 20 new freshmen will have to make an immediate impact. Leading the way for Herkimer will be returning All-American Ashleigh Tracy (Cobleskill, NY) in the middle of the field.  She will have fellow sophomores Amanda Brown (Oxford, NY), Vanessa Bullock (Edwards, NY), Amanda Peek (New Berlin, NY) and Dana Pohlig (Herkimer, NY) helping out in the offensive end. On the opposite end, Melissa McGough (Remsen, NY) is the other returning starter and will be anchoring the defense.

Three freshmen will be sharing time in goal throughout the season: Michelle Cuomo (Rotterdam, NY), Rachel Abrams (Highland Falls, NY) and Jenna Morse (Coxsackie, NY). Head Coach Amy Dommer declared, “All three have great reaction times and cover the net very well.”

Other top newcomers include: Kierra Mack (McGraw, NY), Lisa McMillan (Johnstown, NY) and Emily Baldwin (Gloversville, NY) up front, Sarah Johnson (Herkimer, NY) and Carrin LaCoppola (Little Falls, NY) in the midfield.  The new defenders are Angie Rudy (Palmyra, NY) and Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, NY).

The Herkimer ladies open their season at home in the Coliseum Kickoff Tournament, playing Holyoke CC (Mass.) on Saturday 8/28 @ 4:30 pm and Brookdale CC (NJ) on Sunday 8/29 at 2:30 pm, both at Wehrum Stadium.
