Jefferson Nips Herkimer - Tracy Scores Corner Kick Goal
Watertown, NY. The Herkimer CCC women's soccer team came oh-so-close in a match with Region III competitor SUNY Jefferson. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the game, but Jefferson came out on top 4-3.
Jefferson jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Briana Guarino scored at the 19 and 27 minute marks on two defensive miscues for Herkimer. Krista Stubba put the Generals on the board at the 36 minute mark when she collected a nice through ball from Emily Baldwin and beat the keeper. The halftime score was 2-1.
Herkimer started the second half on fire and tied up the game just 27 seconds in when Krista Stubba crossed the ball in to Kierra Mack. Freshman midfielder Mack headed the ball toward the goal and Ashleigh Tracy finished the play.
Jefferson's Alicia Uhlein put the Cannoneers back on top as she recieved a pass from Brittany Sharlow and beat the keeper near post.
Spectacular goal: Co-Captain Ashleigh Tracy tied the game again on a corner kick that bent perfectly into the net at the 71 minute mark.
The final score of the night came just three minutes later when Teddi Filiatraut sent a shot past the Herkimer keeper unassisted.
The Lady Generals next outing is Thursday, Sept. 9, in a 4:00 PM match at Fulton-Montgomery.
