Courtney Hibbard - Women's Tennis - Green & Gold Athlete for September
Courtney Hibbard led her tennis team to an 8-2 regular season record. She has gone up against very talented opponents but her mental game and pure athleticism have given her the edge all season. She posted a 9-1 regular season record, with her one loss coming from a three set match against OCC. Courtney defeated that same OCC opponent in their other head-to-head meeting this year. Courtney continued her strong play into the first few days of October when she led her team to the Region III Tennis Championship. She defeated Kelsey Roach of Broome 6-4, 6-3 in the Semifinal and then went up against #1 seed and highly favored Lindsey DelVecchio of Delhi. In a 3 1/2 hour match with both players knowing that the tournament score was tied 10-10 between their two teams, Courtney rose to the occasion and played her finest tennis yet by defeating previously undefeated DelVecchio 7- 5, 6-7(5-7), 6-4. Said women’s tennis head coach Katie Scanlon, “I’m truly amazed at how Courtney thrives and succeeds under enormous pressure.”

Women’s Tennis Brings Region 3 Championship to Herkimer
A determined Lady Generals squad played with courage and tenacity to win the Region 3 Championship. It was a very competitive tourney, which Herkimer won with 11 points, barely bettering host SUNY Delhi’s 10.

Saturday’s bright sunshine and Sunday’s gray clouds reflected the results of Herkimer’s women’s tennis matches. The Lady Generals rolled over Mohawk Valley 9-0 on Saturday but bowed 8-1 to Onondaga Community College on Sunday.
