Herkimer Volleyball finishes season at Mountain Valley Conference Tournament
Delhi, NY - The Herkimer Generals wrapped up their 2011 season with a strong showing at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships in Delhi, NY on Saturday afternoon. In taking two out of three matches on the day, Herkimer finished the season with a record of 8-20.
In the first match, Herkimer swept rival Mohawk Valley Community College by scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 15-12. In their next match, The fourth-seeded Generals gave the top seed, SUNY Adirondack, all it could handle, before losing in five sets by scores of 18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 16-25, and 9-15. In their final match of the year, Herkimer easliy beat Fulton-Montgomery in straight sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-18.
Senior Marissa Mowers (Dolgeville), who was named on the First Team All-Region Squad earlier in the day, led the Generals with 21 kills, 54 digs, and 6 aces on the day. Tessa Gaglianese (Canastota) added 13 kills and 38 digs while Lisa McMillian (Johnstown) chipped in with 45 digs on the day.
Due to their record, The Generals will not get the opportunity to defend their Region III Championship this weekend at Niagara CCC. But Coach Kristy Lynch will have many players back from this season's team and will look to make a run at another Regional Championship next year.
