(Alyssa Craig scores three of her 11 points on Wednesday against SUNY Adirondack).

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Women’s Basketball team, playing their third game in five days, fought valiantly Wednesday night against SUNY Adirondack in the varsity gym, erasing a 16-point first half deficit, but when it was all settled, the Timberwolves prevailed with a 61-54 victory.

Herkimer 10-13 (6-7) clawed back into the game in the final three minutes of the first half with three-point field goals from Emily Rexford (Canton, NY) and Raven Griffin (Syracuse, NY). Each player hit two, decreasing a SUNY Adirondack lead from 36-20 to 36-26 then 36-27 after Korey Bunal (Rome, NY) sank a free throw with less than a minute left in the half.

In the second half, it took the Generals five minutes to tie the game at 38 with buckets from Samantha Randio (Ravena, NY), Kaylyn Dickerson (Douglasville, GA) and Griffin. Randio and Dickerson both completed three-point plays from the foul line, with Dickerson doing it with 14:23 left in regulation to give Herkimer a chance at getting their first lead of the game.

The Timberwolves only allowed the Generals to get within three after Alyssa Craig (Fonda, NY) sank two-of-three free throws with 3:33 left in regulation, finishing the game on an 8-4 run.

Randio, Craig and Griffin were the lone Generals to score in double figures Wednesday. Randio had a team-high 17, Craig finished with 11 and Griffin finished with 10. The other three to score were Rexford, Dickerson and Bunal. Rexford had six, Dickerson had six and Bunal had four.

Herkimer’s next game is seven days away against conference opponent Schenectady County Community College. Next Wednesday (2/19) the Generals will host the Royals in the varsity gym at 5 p.m.
