Generals rally late to beat Broncos 62-55

HERKIMER, NY – Erasing a double digit lead in the final nine minutes of regulation Saturday (2/7), the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team defeated Mountain Valley Conference rival SUNY Delhi 62-55, taking two of their last three games against conference foes in the process.

Herkimer (7-15, 4-9) was led by sophomore Raven Griffin (Syracuse, NY), watching the guard score 10 of her team-high 15 when her team needed it most, erasing a 47-37 deficit with 9:01 left in regulation.

It was Griffin who got the team started with a quick 4-0 run on a layup and offensive rebound which lead to another field goal, cutting the deficit to seven (50-43). Then teammates Erica Tracy (Cobleskill, NY), Nicole Doolen (Ilion, NY), Chelsea Jory (Herkimer, NY) scored the team’s next 11 points, taking their first lead of the game when Tracy scored on an assist from Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) with 3:03 left. Tracy finished with game with 13.

A Doolen layup pushed the lead to three (54-51), then Griffin sealed the game scoring her final six, with four coming from the charity stripe, to complete the comeback at home.

Herkimer’s only other player to score in double figures against the Broncos was Alexandria Hardy (Kerhonkson, NY). The freshman scored 11.

The Generals get right back to it Monday (2/9), traveling to face Finger Lakes Community College. The Lakers are losers of their last 10 games. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
