Conference play ends with solid showing in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, NY – In the final conference match of the season at Boulevard Bowl, the Herkimer Generals bowling team saw the men finish fifth and the women finish third.

Herkimer’s Trevor Marston (Georgetown, NY) bowled a season-best 668 (205, 267, 196) series and game-high 267 for the men, but it wasn’t enough to push the sophomore on the Al-Conference team, coming in ninth place overall, just two spots away from the accomplishment.

Freshman Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY) and Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY) followed. Sterling bowled a season-best 611 (191, 225, 195), averaging 203 per game which jumped him to 29th in the conference. Cross finished 38th, thanks to a 540, his third consecutive 500 series in conference play.

Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY) was the final male to bowl a 500 series (123, 178, 211), totaling 512. His game-high 211 was a season best, helping the sophomore average 170 per game.

Joseph Hilts (Marcy, NY), Eric Arthur (Remsen, NY) and Ben Newman (Utica, NY) finalized the men’s roster Wednesday, seeing Hilts bowl a 459 (148, 158, 153), Arthur bowl a 439 (130, 132, 177) and Newman bowl a 405 (150, 135, 120).

For the women, Destiny LeRoy (Sodus, NY) bounced back with a 632 series, her best in conference play. The sophomore averaged an impressive 210 per game thanks to a 204 in game one and game-high 257 in game two.

Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY) and Jena Soper (Harrisville, NY) followed with the only two 500 series for the Generals on Wednesday. Buck bowled a 561 (169, 189, 203) and Soper bowled a 500 (170, 171, 159).

Rounding out the women’s team was Ronnie Hines (South Otselic, NY), Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY), Selena Barber (Mayfield, NY) and Caitlyn Frye (Broadalbin, NY). Hines bowled her first 400 series in a week after consecutive 500 series, averaging a 164. Salisbury also saw a drop in play after her first 500 series in the Generals last match, bowling a 492 which was aided by a game-high 210, her best in conference play. Barber bowled her first 400 series of the season after consecutive 600 series. She averaged 163 per game, which helped the sophomore to the All-Conference team, placing fourth thanks to a 186 average in 18 games. Frye bowled a 442, her best showing of the season, finishing 28th in the conference.

The Generals next match will be at AMF Pin-O-Rama in Utica, NY on Sunday, February 22nd. It will be the host for this year’s Region III Bowling Championship. Games are scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
