Women’s Bowling captures sixth at nationals

CHEEKTOAGA, NY – Traveling to AMF Thruway Lanes for the NJCAA National Bowling Championship last Friday and Saturday, the Herkimer Generals bowling program did well, seeing the women finish sixth overall and the men finish 14th.

Helping the women finish just outside of the Top 5 was solid doubles play from Selena Barber (Mayfield, NY), Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY), Destiny LeRoy (Sodus, NY) and Ronnie Hines (South Otselic, NY). Barber and Buck combined to capture 11th place, totaling 1020 pins. Each did well with Barber accumulating a 563 (146, 225, 192) and Buck bowling a 457 (164, 136, 157) in three games. Just three spots behind Barber and Buck were LeRoy and Hines. Both totaled 997 in six total games with LeRoy bowling a 536 (203, 183, 150) and Hines bowling a 461 (176, 150, 135).

The women then saw LeRoy place 26th, Jena Soper (Harrisville, NY) place 31st, Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY) place 33rd, Barber place 36th, Buck place 60th, Hines place 69th and Caitlyn Frye (Broadalbin, NY) place 74th in singles. LeRoy had a 514, Soper had a 511, Salisbury had a 497, Barber had a 485, Buck had a 437, Hines had a 398 and Frye had a 381.

As for the men, Trevor Marston (Georgetown, NY) placed 38th in all events. The sophomore totaled 2074 pins thanks to a 579 (187, 221, 171) in singles and 480 (150, 170, 160) in doubles. Marston paired with Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY) in doubles, seeing both athletes total an 841. Cross helped with a 361 (109, 116, 116) in doubles and 567 in singles (181, 220, 166).

Following Marston and Cross in all events was Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY), Joseph Hilts (Marcy, NY), Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY), Ben Newman (Utica, NY) and Eric Arthur (Remsen, NY). Sterling finished in 43rd (1963), Hilts finished 66th (1644), Tanner finished 76th (1421) Newman finished 90th (1197) and Arthur finished 102nd (958).
